Gifts
Build mug and print customizers with customer uploads, names, and Live Preview. Follow a mug setup example through cart and order checks.

These are examples of personalized gift customizer setups. If a matching template is available in your dashboard, apply it directly. Otherwise, use these as a guide to build your own. See How to Use a Podifai Template. The videos below show example builds of each setup.
For a complete setup, follow the photo and name mug walkthrough, including cart and order checks.
Custom Mug
A custom mug customizer might include:
- Shopify variants for stocked mug colors
- Color Swatch linked to the printed text's preview color
- Image Upload for the customer's artwork or photo
- Text Input for the printed name or message
- Font Swatch for the lettering style
- Live Preview showing the printed mug
If mug color controls SKU, stock, base price, or the variant image, keep it in Shopify variants. Use Podifai color choices for personalization. See Shopify Variants vs Podifai Options.
Custom Print
A custom print (poster / framed art) customizer might include:
- Shopify variants for print sizes with their own SKU, stock, or base price
- Badge Group for caption placement (Top / Bottom)
- Image Upload for the source photo or artwork
- Text Input for an optional caption or name
- Font Swatch for the caption lettering style
- Live Preview for the framed print mockup
- Dynamic Pricing for an optional personalization charge
Badge Group collects a customization choice; it does not create a Shopify variant for a print size. Check the preview area for each size and keep the source upload suitable for your production process.
Check the Gift Setup
Test short and long text, portrait and landscape uploads, and each stocked variant. Confirm that the preview fits the intended print area and that any personalization charge reaches checkout. Then use the order verification checklist before launch.
Example: A Mug with a Photo and Name
Start with one mug, one uploaded photo, and one name. This example is a configuration to build; it does not require a particular template to be available in your dashboard.
- Keep stocked mug colors or sizes in Shopify variants. Open the mug's option editor in Podifai and create the customization fields.
- Add Image Upload, label it "Your photo", and make it required if a photo is needed to produce this mug. Add help text stating the accepted formats and 8 MB file limit.
- Add Text Input, label it "Name", and set a character limit that fits your actual print area. If you offer a font choice, add Font Swatch and link it to the text.
- Configure the mug preview background. Enable Live Preview for the upload and text, then position their layers in the printable area. Keep the mug mockup separate from the customer artwork.
- If personalization has an extra charge, set the intended fixed adjustment. Avoid charging the same service on both the upload and name unless two charges are intended.
- Save and enable the customizer. On the storefront, upload a portrait and then a landscape image, enter the longest allowed name, and check each stocked variant. If shoppers need to reposition the photo, configure the Storefront Image Editor.
- Add the mug to cart and check the variant, uploaded file link, name, preview, and total. Create a test order and review the same data in order details.
The expected result is a mug preview containing the chosen photo and name, with those details saved in the order. If you need PNG output, first enable Generate print-ready files. Check the resulting transparent PNG against your production requirements: the mug background is excluded, and the preview alone does not establish the physical print dimensions or color result.
